Uber One was marketed as a way to help Uber customers save money on their purchases.  Uber claimed that consumers in an Uber One membership would save money on ride bookings or food deliveries. Uber offered Uber One through free trials to consumers and promised that consumers could “cancel anytime” without additional fees.

After a number of complaints by Uber riders about the confusing cancellation process for Uber One, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) launched an investigation into Uber’s practices, focusing on its cancellation policies. In April 2025, the FTC filed a lawsuit against Uber alleging that Uber made it deliberately difficult for consumers to cancel their Uber One memberships.

The FTC lawsuit claims that Uber failed to provide a simple method to cancel Uber One by designing the cancellation process to be misleading. According to the lawsuit any consumer wishing to cancel Uber One, had to navigate 7 different screens and take 12 separate actions. Cancellation is even more difficult for consumers within 48 hours of their billing date, during which Uber removed the option to cancel Uber One from consumers’ applications, forcing them to take as many as 32 actions and navigate as many as 23 screens before learning that they would need to contact customer service to cancel. The lawsuit also alleges that Uber customer service delayed responding to routine cancellation requests and that Uber One failed to deliver promised savings. FTC Chairman, Andrew N. Ferguson, commented, “Americans are tired of getting signed up for unwanted subscriptions that seem impossible to cancel.”
