Microsoft sold Office 2019 for Mac as a one-time purchase. Consumers paid for software that allowed them to use programs like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook without paying for an ongoing Microsoft 365 subscription.
Beginning July 13, 2026, Microsoft plans to limit what Office 2019 for Mac can do. Users will still be able to open and print documents, but they will no longer be able to create new documents, edit existing documents, or save changes.
